ABOUT US

Who We Are

The Burton Costume Project is a community-driven effort to make theatre and performance more accessible and sustainable in Burton upon Trent and nearby areas.

Our Mission

We believe everyone should have the chance to express themselves through creative arts — regardless of budget or background. That’s why we focus on affordable costume hire, reducing waste, and building volunteering opportunities.

How It Works

We collect donated costumes and create themed sets that local groups can rent at low cost. Income from rentals goes directly back into supporting young people and grassroots theatre. â€‹

Supporting Young People

We partner with Burton & South Derbyshire College, giving SEND students real experience cataloguing and caring for costumes. This helps build skills and confidence, opening doors to future jobs.

Our Community Partners

The Burton Costume Project is supported by a fantastic network of local partners and creatives:

Burton & South Derbyshire College – Providing facilities, SEND volunteer support, and interns who help build the project from the ground up.

StageScreen Donating costumes and offering advice, encouragement, and connections to the local theatre community.

Local volunteers and creative networks – Contributing time, advice, and practical help as we prepare to launch.

We’re grateful for everyone working behind the scenes to make this a reality.

Burton Costume Project does not offer bespoke costume design services. Any styling or show-specific use is the responsibility of the hirer. While we’re happy to suggest items that may suit your production, this is informal guidance only and not professional design advice.
